If you mostly boat fish with lesser surf casting, go with the 25N. Not wanting to take on old guard yellowtail or big rays with 15 or 20 lb mono, I settled on using 60 lb braid main-line. If surf casting is your primary mission, go with a Fathom II 15 or a Squall 15 loaded with 50 lb braided line. I wanted to use 30 lb mono main-line, but the 25N functions poorly with heavy mono. Resetting the brake pins on the Gen 1 FTH15 and Gen 1/Gen 2 25N when changing between light 2 oz irons and hefty bait rigs is a small chore requiring a screwdriver whereas the magnetic braking system on the Fathom II 15 and SQL15 are easy to adjust. Performance-wise, the 25N is an excellent boat reel and an average caster. The overall construction and quality of the 25N reel is excellent. Additionally, perhaps others can give insight into how the Abu 7500, Akios 757 CT, or bigger 2020 Saltists compare to the 25N as a caster?
The 2-Speeds of the Fathom allow you to have a fast retrieval rate for the lure and then switch to a lower gear when it comes time to haul your catch in.

I have two of these, 25 and 40, and they are my go-to reels Even before I grab one of my more expensive combos, I prefer the Fathoms They are buttery smooth.
